Case Study – Lloyds TSB

As part of an ongoing project to develop the in-house brand of their IT department Lloyds TSB engaged us to create artwork and design elements for one of their key sites in Manchester.

As part of this project we felt it would be good to actually involve staff in a workshop to create some new artworks and so we looked into what areas of the building this might suit.

Through discussion with the staff of Brotherton House we established that they were bored with the artworks currently being displayed in their canteen area. They were collectively know as the ‘white things’ and had been on display for a number of years.

We organised a full-day workshop that staff would be able to drift in and out of so as to cause minimum disruption to their working day. Over the course of the day some 60 staff were involved, some spent a lot longer with us that they had expected to as they found they were rather enjoying themselves!

We sent the first group of staff out with digital cameras to take photos of a number of themes surrounding their jobs and work life.

One of the themes was ‘the building’, as we were hoping they would take the time to re-appraise the 1970s brown brick building that many members of staff had said they disliked. The results were impressive. Through the camera the building came into it’s own, it’s sharp angles and rich hues lending themselves well to creating interesting compositions. The staff had rather surprised themselves.

We then took a selection of these photos and worked them up into 5 collage canvases which, by the end of the day were ready to hang. We then all celebrated with an informal unveiling and a glass of fizz.
